Choosing a top agent for you and your home

Thinking about putting your property on the market? Here's what you need to know about finding the right agent to help you sell your home.

All real estate agents are created equal right? Actually, that's not quite correct. And it's a rather worrisome assumption that people make. So you need to make sure you find one that can will work best for you and your property, and help you get the result you're after.


They need to be local

In every region, and every town, is a different property market, so just because someone is a good real estate agent in one particular area, it doesn't necessarily mean that transfers to any location. A local real estate agent can provide insights that no statistics can, including an indepth knowledge of the key aspects to sell property in each unique neighbourhood.


Do your research

There is plenty of information online these days to enable you to make shortlist of potential agents before having to talk to anyone, so let your fingers do the walking and discover those who have a good online presence.


Know their process

Don't be afraid to ask them questions about their process, and how they work to get a sale for a property. Find out how they structure a campaign, and also what they see as the best approach for selling your home. Also ask how often you can expect to hear from them so that you can be across what stage the campaign is at. Remember, selling a property is a partnership, and they need to be someone you feel completely comfortable working alongside.

Agents don't generally work alone, so ask how they work alongside their agency colleagues to get great results for all of their vendors. You want an agent who has a good team behind them, as it really is better to have a whole agency working together for you.


They'll lead the charge

Remember, you're hiring a real estate agent to provide you with a professional service. Selling property is something they do on a daily basis, and you may only do it a few times in a lifetime!
